How It Works
Bacteriostatic water acts as a solvent for compatible injectable medicines. Its benzyl alcohol preservative limits bacterial growth in the solution after opening. The water dissolves or dilutes the medicine, while the medicine supplies the pharmacological action.
Reconstitution and Product Compatibility
The practical function is preparing a compatible powder or diluting a compatible injectable product. The correct diluent is determined by the medicine's formulation and instructions. Benzyl alcohol preservation does not replace sterile handling or make a contaminated product sterile.
- Dissolving compatible injectable powders.
- Diluting medicines whose instructions permit it.
- Limiting bacterial growth through benzyl alcohol preservation.
Post Cycle Therapy
Bacteriostatic water has no androgenic action and does not suppress natural testosterone production. It does not require PCT. Any recovery requirements belong to the active medicine being prepared, rather than the diluent.
Side Effects
Possible problems include local irritation, benzyl alcohol sensitivity, contamination and incompatibility with the active medicine. Benzyl alcohol poses a particular toxicity risk to newborns. Water for injection must not be administered intravenously on its own because it can cause haemolysis.
