How It Works
The inhibitor inhibits aromatase by binding to the enzyme's haem component. This reduces the conversion of testosterone and androstenedione into estrogens. Its primary hormonal effect is a reduction in estrogen synthesis throughout the tissues where aromatase is active.
Estrogen Production and Hormone Balance
The inhibitor lowers estradiol and other circulating estrogens. Its relevance during aromatizing androgen exposure is managing a demonstrated estrogen excess. The useful outcome is appropriate hormone control, rather than the lowest possible estradiol reading.
- Inhibiting aromatase activity.
- Reducing estradiol synthesis.
- Reducing estrogen formation from aromatizable androgens.
Post Cycle Therapy
The inhibitor does not create the androgen suppression that steroid PCT is intended to address. During recovery from a steroid cycle, it has a role only when the hormonal findings justify estrogen reduction. Recovery of natural testosterone production is a separate clinical question.
Side Effects
Possible effects include joint pain, hot flushes, fatigue, headache, dizziness and reduced libido from low estrogen. Sustained estrogen reduction can impair bone density and worsen lipid levels. More inhibition does not reliably produce better symptoms, and marked estrogen deficiency can disrupt training and sexual function.
